I wanted to make a bunch of species to inhabit the same world as my mothbats, and I definitely wanted something that could make clothing. So have some weird critters.

(Sorry this is so wordy. Also, the sketches were all made with a mouse... so please forgive the mess. ;v; )

WEAVERS

Weavers are odd little critters that depend on other species to protect them. In exchange for food, protection, and other things, they weave clothing from their own silk, produced from glands in their mouths.

General details:
  • Omnivorous
  • Weavers have no teeth. They cut up their food into small pieces with their claws before eating.
  • Their eyes have horizontal pupils, similar to a goat's.
  • Weaver silk can vary in density and strength, and they can choose this at will. Very fine threads are used to make ribbons, while thicker ones are used for heavier, warmer clothing. Weavers use a very thick, strong thread in order to sew, and can create things from pelts, leaves, and other materials in addition to weaving their own silk into cloth.
  • Weavers can dye silk by soaking it mixed water and ground herbs, soil, etc.
  • The bottoms of their feet are equipped with sticky pads, that work similarly to gecko's feet.
  • The secondary arms are too short to touch the ground, and are often used to hold things in place while their main pair work.
  • They have long, very sharp claws on the outer side of their front legs (Unlike thumbs and dew claws, which are located on the inner side). These are used to cut thread, and work very well at trimming fur. These claws are extremely delicate, an ineffective as a weapon.
  • Weavers will only wear clothing they've created themselves, or created by very close friends/family. However, they have difficulty trimming their own manes, so they often let others do it for them.
  • Tails are made up of long hair, similar to a horse's. Generally, their tails hang straight down (Unless styled short).
Manes:

  • Manes and tails grow indefinitely, and weavers trim them to fit their own preferences.
  • They can be tied back, braided, etc
  • They can also be trimmed extremely short, essentially not having them at all.

Horns:

  • On males, these horns are long and sharp. Females have smooth bumps.
  • These horns are mostly for show. They are made of bone, but are fairy brittle

POISON WEAVERS

  • Unlike regular weavers, who's tail is mostly hair, poison weavers sport a scorpion-like tail, covered with long fur on the top. The tail can be twisted above the body in order to sting threats.
  • When relaxed, the long fur hides the tip of the tail.
  • Their venom is extremely painful, but rarely deadly to larger creatures.
  • Carnivorous
  • Due to their ability to protect themselves, poison weavers are loners. However, they still barter their goods to other species. Because of this, they tend to hide their tails when not in immediate danger.
  • They always have dark pelts with colorful spots. They often wear clothing that fully covers their bodies, in order to avoid being recognized.
  • Eyes have vertical pupils.
  • Horns are much flatter, sometimes not protruding at all. There are no recognizable differences between the horns of opposite sexes.
